of maryland college park student lies in the hands of the jury. lowell melser joins us live from upper marlborough with more on the proceedings. >> closing arguments to much of the day. the jury got the case around 3:00 this afternoon. they have been deliberating for about three hours. the jury has made two requests. the most important being to see the videotape of the beating. reginald baker and james harrison are the two officers facing second-degree assault and misconduct charges. they're waiting on the verdict. the case narrowly avoided a mistral after it was revealed the judge was previously married to a p.g. county officer convicted of using excessive force. they are accused of abusing their power when they beat the university of maryland student during a riot situation on march 3 of 2010. the incident was caught on video

from a student in a nearby apartment building. throughout the trial, both men took the witness stand to tell their side of the story claiming mckenna was the aggressor and startled a mounted horse. batons. him with their the attorneys emphasized their clients were doing what they could to diffuse a dangerous situation. prosecutors claimed the man overreacted and the video showed the officers continued to beat on mckenna even though he was on the ground and not fighting back. prosecutors questioned harrison's integrity pointing out he initially lied to investigators claiming he had nothing to do with it and later recanted his story. he said the request made by the jury was to order pizza, meeting

deliberations will continue into the evening. the officers are facing charges of second-degree assault and misconduct. i am lowell melser, wbal-tv 11 news. >> a 21-year-old anne arundel county man faces counts of animal cruelty. animal control officers retrieved a number of dogs, cats, and exotic pets from the pasadena home of shane taylor. many of the animals were without adequate food and water. some had died. he denies the charges and insists he provided appropriate care. his curly on $10,000 bond. howard county -- he is currently out on to a dozen or bond. michael stephen mckenny faces burglary and videotaping without consent charges. 11 news show the video yesterday. investigators say he used hidden cameras to secretly record two women inside the home.

detectives believe he knew the victims and had stolen and copied the key to their condominium. they say he entered it several times beginning in june. authorities are working to notify two other women recorded in a separate incident. they're looking into whether other victims may have been videotaped. he is being held on bond. >> thousands of files outlining decades of abuse revealed some of the alleged cases reportedly took place in maryland. they include locations in baltimore, frederick, and others. the boy scouts' national office released a statement acknowledging past responses were not always appropriate. the organization says it is committed to protecting boys from abuse. experts suggest parents should stay engaged in a children's activities. >> it is beginning a dialogue to figure out what is going on.
